In the beginning…….
Prior to July 11, 1991 I played with cameras but was not a very good (picture taker). July 11, 1991 was a very important day in my photographic life. It was the day that I decided to become a photographer. At that time I did not really know what that meant…
Prior to that date I had always enjoyed taking photographs – my joy was to create images that I thought other people would like. I think that I started the hard way and that was to have no training at all and to try to learn photography using the “hit and miss” system. That sure was very painful. (Going back a lot further in my life I realized that both my mother and father enjoyed taking photos with our Kodak Instamatic). But I regress or maybe not, maybe this is where it all got started. I remember looking through the viewfinder and mashing the button as fast as i could see the image. No composition no though of focus and no timing. Even though it was fun to take the photos I found that it was not as fun to get the photos back in a week or two later to find that the images were not very good at all.
Unlike the presence there was a price to play – but a slightly different price to pay. Back then one had to think about film and flashbulbs depending on what type of what type of camera one was using.
